Our Dream

Established in January 2002, the Dream Center is a non-profit organization with a single focus: to help at-risk and high-risk community members fulfill their dreams.

Strategically located on the West side of Salt Lake City, an area where currently over 90 languages are spoken, The Center is surrounded by a community of poverty, addictions, and gangs. The Center is here to meet the needs of those who need help, whether it is in the form of food, clothing, educational, emotional, or medical assistance. The Center’s vision is to allow those in their community to think outside the poverty mentality and to teach them how to assimilate into a productive life. Since opening its doors, the Dream Center has helped literally thousands of families and individuals eliminate obstacles to fulfill their dreams.

I'm just here to help people."
- Utah Dream Center Founder and President Alfred Murillo

About Us

The Utah Dream Center was founded in 2000 by Alfred and Anna Murillo. Though the physical doors to the Dream Center weren’t opened until 2002, the foundation was laid much earlier. Modeling much of the Utah Dream Center’s operations and strategies off of the LA Dream Center, www.dreamcenter.org, Alfred and Anna first operated a sidewalk children’s ministry by buying and renovating a large truck with a fold-down platform. Alfred is also a ten year board member of the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Metro Gang Project.

For many, dreams start small with basic survival needs. It might be strange to associate food and medical care with dreams, but it can be the first step for many. Some that call the West side home, for example, live in substandard housing, while others are refugees or new immigrants. The social and economic obstacles to living a safe and healthy life are obvious.
